The Lodge at Lake San Marcos

The CDC is currently undergoing a name change.  This week they were approved to do business as “The Lodge at Lake San Marcos.”   The name really makes “no sense” to me.  Seems like there will be a lot of confusion with The Lakehouse at Lake San Marcos and The Lodge at Lake San Marcos.   Also, I thought a “lodge” is somewhere you go to stay and spend the night.  No, in Lake San Marcos it is the Lakehouse.  See what I mean, confusing?

Regardless of the new name, the CDC has done some good things for the Lake San Marcos and its residents.  Many more are planned for the future.

  • Kayak storage – In June, the Lodge opened kayak storage and was immediately filled to near capacity.  They then began work on an outdoor kayak storage facility.  You can call and make reservations at 760-500-5012.
  • Pools – They have refreshed both pools and hire a professional pool service to make sure everyone has a good recreational experience.
  • Rules and Regulations – Drafts were sent out for people to review and make comments.  I did.
  • Security – Electronic proximity  card locks on all of the gates leading onto the property at the Lodge.  Also, on the gates leading to the pool.  Locks are scheduled to be activated in August.  All of us lake (The Lodge at Lake San Marcos) members will have a new ID Card.

Lake San Marcos Improvements

As you may or may not know, the Citizens Development Corporation (CDC) is in charge of the facilities and lake at Lake San Marcos.  We have all seen it go downhill over the last few years, but if you are paying attention you can now see very positive things happening.   From time to time I will publish some of the changes in this blog.

Citizens Development Corporation (CDC) has filed a proposed Plan of Reorganization with the Federal Bankruptcy Court.  That plan, if approved, would control how CDC will repay its creditors and eventually exit from bankruptcy.  The next Court hearing on the Plan has been rescheduled for Aug 21. Conditions look favorable for the proposed plan to be approved.

Although approval of CDC’s proposed Plan of Reorganization has been delayed, CDC continues to make needed improvements in the facilities. Attached are photos of the Children’s pool resurfacing which has occurred over the last two weeks. This project, designed to make the pool usable this summer, has been completed, the pool has been refilled, and is again open for use.

Significant capital improvements cannot be started until CDC’s Plan of Reorganization is approved by the Courts and the creditors.  Once that is accomplished both of the pools are expected to see a major remodeling going far beyond the short term fixes required to keep them operational.

Finding Single Story Homes in San Diego North County

With the population base getting older and baby-boomers reaching retirement age, the quest for single story, one level homes increases.  So you would think builders would have realized the trend and would have built a lot of single story homes in San Diego North County.  No, the opposite is true.  In the last 15 years, almost everything North County home builders have produced has been large two story homes.  They try to get the most bang for the buck without actually trying to meet the needs of the San Diego North County home buyers.

Lake San Marcos

Happy New Year to all my Lake San Marcos neighbors.  Below the photo are some things we can all do to help improve life around our community.

  1. I will relocate my sprinkler heads that are wasting water on pavement, in my street, my driveway, or walkway.
  2. I will keep dirt, oil, land-scape debris, cigarette butts, animal droppings, and any foreign matter out of the street. Our storm drains all empty into Lake San Marcos – no matter where our street is located.
  3. Products from our kitchen and bathroom drains DO go to a treatment plant. I will remember that there is NO treatment plant for any storm drain.  Whatever finds its way to a storm drain, goes into Lake San Marcos.
  4. I will also remind new residents that we are all responsible to keep our streets clean and to prevent rainwater from carrying all undesirable items into our storm drains.
  5. I will sweep, not use a hose to clean my driveway or sidewalk. I will use a safe cleaning agent IF I must wash my vehicle and have a shut-off on the water hose. I will explain to others that when soap water goes into a storm drain it will give our fifi sh an unwelcome bubble bath.
  6. I will remember the San Diego North County regulations to pick-up after my pets, use a leash not more than 6’ in length, and remember that pets may not run freely but must be kept in an enclosed space when left outside.
  7. I will purchase a neutralizing solution from a pool supplier and use it before draining my pool.
  8. I will join the Lake San Marcos Security Patrol for my home or for my tenants. I will ask about affordable payment plans. 744-0811.  I agree that we should all share the cost of this protection because even if I never need to ask for help, it’s a fact that our safety and property values are enhanced by the existence of these trained Offifi cers.  Lake San Marcos is ranked the safest community in San Diego County because of this remarkable service.
  9. I will patronize our reliable local businesses and their services whenever possible.  I will make plans with friends to have lunch or dinner at Gordon’s on the Green. The new menus and service deserve to be experienced.
  10. The TENTH Resolution can be your choice of actions.  
    Do I participate in any of the various LSM activities?
    Do I express thanks to those who give their time and energy to maintain the clubs and groups?
    Have I attended a meeting of the Computer Club to expand my competency?
    If I have a new address or a new last name, have I registered to vote?
    Do I respect that I must maintain a speed limit of not more than the 25 mph the county law requires in residential areas?
    Do I remember that drivers share our roads with joggers and walkers and bikers and baby strollers?
    Think about what YOU could do to make a difference in your 2011 life! And ….. JUST DO IT!

Lake San Marcos homes, part of the larger San Marcos CA homes area, is one of the safer places you can live in San Diego North County.  The Lake San Marcos homes area has one of the lowest crime rates in San Diego County.  In the Lake San Marcos homes area  there were only three incidents of crime for the entire three months of March-May 2010.  This compares with 784 for the same period outside the Lake San Marcos homes area, but still in zip 92078. 

Lake San Marcos Security Patrol – Armed & 24/7

On of the main reasons for the low crime rate in the Lake San Marcos homes area is the Lake San Marcos Security Patrol.  The Patrol is always visible and on the job.  In 2009 for example, the Lake San Marcos Patrol closed 1532 garage doors (one was mine that I had forgotten to shut at night).   They also did 19,204 vacations checks, responded to 102 residents down that needed help, and had 7,948 officer assist/good Samaritans.  119 trespassing calls and 246 suspicious activities calls were responded to.  The Patrol seems to be everywhere all the time in the Lake San Marcos homes area.  And as the great results show, that is a very good thing.  Lake San Marcos Patrol is armed officers and is on vehicle patrol 24/7 for your protection.
