Water Restrictions - San Diego North County Homes
|
This page applies to 2009 water restrictions, but these restrictions or even tighter ones will, no doubt, be in effect in 2010 even though we have had a normal amount of rainfall. "Water, water, everywhere, nor any drop to drink." Sadly, Samuel T. Coleridge's poem is becoming our anthem. Last summer, starting on July 1st in most areas, Whether you live in a Carlsbad home, Oceanside home, San Marcos home or Escondido home, all San Diego North County residents have to live with the tightest mandatory water restrictions in almost 20 years. San Diego North County homes are going to have to learn to "be water wise." Most of the districts are not raising rates, but the Vallecitos Water District that serves San Marcos homes, Lake San Marcos homes, Vista homes, and some Carlsbad homes will impose a rate increase to customers that do not cut back by 8%. Most San Diego North County water restrictions will be based on what the homeowner can use water for, how long they can water by station, and how many days they can water. For example, filling ornamental fountains, washing off driveways and patios will be prohibited in most North County areas. The water restrictions will vary by San Diego area, but many things will be similiar. For example most areas will restrict watering to 3 days per week and 10 minutes per station. San Diego North County residents will all be ask to use common sense in all their uses of water. For most areas, San Diego North County homes with odd number addresses will be allowed to water on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday and even number addresses will be allowed on Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday. Please check with your water district for exact rules. Save water, be water wise. Many water restrictions for North County home areas are listed below.

Everyone needs to check the rules of their own water district. Most San Diego North County districts have these rules listed on the community websites. For some reason the water districts talk about water usage in units, but no one seems to know what a unit is. When they talk about saving water, they talk about gallons. So how many gallons are in a unit? After much research, 748 gallons are in a unit.
San Diego North County home water districts have made it clear if the above measures do not result in lower water use, tougher drought restrictions will be implemented. Everyone has to learn to "be water wise."
