Escondido Things to Do

Fun Things to Do

The Escondido real estate area has fun things to do for all cultures and all ages. Besides the Center for the Arts, there is a Lawrence Welk Theater which has great Broadway shows and good dinners. The Welk area is located just north of downtown and is certainly a favorite with the older crowd. Visitors can shop and see many historic things from the Lawrence Welk shows that ran for many years on national television. Also, north of Escondido, is the Deerpark Winery and Auto Museum. This winery features award winning Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and many others. Daily tours and wine tasting are available. The Stone Brewing Company moved its headquarters to Escondido in 2006 and features many fine beers.

Escondido Wild Animal Park

East of Escondido, in the San Pasqual Valley, is the San Diego Wild Animal Park which draws visitors from all over the US and around the world. This is where the Serengeti meets North County San Diego. The Wild Animal Park has been responsible for saving many endangered species. The park has a Safari monorail to take visitors through the more than 1800 acres where wild. Exotic animals can be viewed in their natural habitat. The park also offers animal feedings, a nursery viewing area, shops, restaurants, and a children’s petting zoo. If you want to camp out all night under the stars, there is the "Roar and Snore" program. For a close up encounters to take photos, there is the "Picture Safari." You can also get great photos from the many miles of hiking trails throughout the park.

Escondido Real Estate Area Parks

There are 8 city parks in the Escondido real estate area offer more fun things to do.  In the south is Kit Carson Park, named after a famous scout in the Mexican-American war.  Carson fought in the Battle of San Pasqual which is the name of  a nearby valley. (See Escondido History). Kit Carson Park covers over 200 acres and has a 3000 capacity Amphitheater, picnic tables, walking trails, ponds, soccer and softball fields.

Lakes in the Escondido Real Estate Area

To the north of Escondido is Daley Ranch near Lake Dixon. It offers walking, biking, horseback riding (bring your own horse) and hiking.  For the no so fit, there is a Sunday bus trip to the old ranch house in Daley Ranch. In addition to the many parks Escondido has three lakes, Dixon, Wohlford, and Lake Hodges (the water is actually in San Diego) but the north shoreline is Escondido. Wohlford was Escondido’s first lake and brought much needed water for the development of the area. It is home to bass fishing, boating, and camping. Dixon is the clearest of the three  lakes and is a the main drinking reservoir for Escondido and Vista.  Dixon is stocked with trout in the winter and for this reason may produce the next world record largemouth bass. There has already been one caught here over 20 lbs. and the world record (established in 1932) is only 221/2 lbs. Dixon is also great for hiking, picnicking, weddings, and camping. Dixon has the most popular and hard to reserve campsites which offer breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Lake Hodges to the south is the largest lake in the area. It provides great views to the surrounding homes as well as good fishing, boating, wind surfing and hiking.
