Lakehouse Hotel & Resort

The new Lakehouse hotel and resort is owned by Pacifica Enterprises, the same owner at the St. Mark Golf Club.  Please don’t think this is the same hotel as before.  It has had a total remodel and transformation.  Everything is new and it shows.  I have had three relatives and four clients stay there and they all love it.

Since opening on June 14, 2013,  Lakeshore Hotel & Resort has been sold out almost every weekend.  They have quickly become the number one hotel in San Marcos on Trip Advisor.   They are the only 4 Star hotel in the area.  They are also benefiting by the excellent reviews that they are receiving on Expedia.com and Hotels.com.  But, a huge portion of their success  can be attributable to the word of mouth recommendations that they have received from Lake San Marcos residents.  Their setting on beautiful Lake San Marcos matched by affordability and the numerous amenities has quickly made this Lake San Marcos resort a highly recommended destination.

Every guest room at the Lakehouse has all the essential amenities you would expect from a 4 Star hotel and many more.  Their standard features include WiFi, flat screen HDTVs. Signature Serenity memory foam beds, down duvets, Keurig coffee makers, and step-in rain showers.

Paddle Boarding at Lake San Marcos

Paddle boarding is now allowed on Lake San Marcos.

Paddle boarding is now allowed at Lake San Marcos.

Pino Vitti, owner of CDC, now the Lodge at Lake San Marcos, announced last week at a community meeting that paddle boarding was now allowed in Lake San Marcos.  In fact, it is being encouraged.  Resident and members of Lake San Marcos may register their paddle boards at the office at 1105 Bonita Drive, right next to the Pavilion.  There is no cost to get a sticker for your boat.

The Lakehouse Hotel and Resort will rent paddle boats to guest for $15 an hour.  Many folks are starting to take advantage.

Lake security will check to make sure all paddle boards have the proper stickers.

The Lodge at Lake San Marcos

The CDC is currently undergoing a name change.  This week they were approved to do business as “The Lodge at Lake San Marcos.”   The name really makes “no sense” to me.  Seems like there will be a lot of confusion with The Lakehouse at Lake San Marcos and The Lodge at Lake San Marcos.   Also, I thought a “lodge” is somewhere you go to stay and spend the night.  No, in Lake San Marcos it is the Lakehouse.  See what I mean, confusing?

New docks by The Lodge at Lake San Marcos

Regardless of the new name, the CDC has done some good things for the Lake San Marcos and its residents.  Many more are planned for the future.

  • Kayak storage – In June, the Lodge opened kayak storage and was immediately filled to near capacity.  They then began work on an outdoor kayak storage facility.  You can call and make reservations at 760-500-5012.
  • Pools – They have refreshed both pools and hire a professional pool service to make sure everyone has a good recreational experience.
  • Rules and Regulations – Drafts were sent out for people to review and make comments.  I did.
  • Security – Electronic proximity  card locks on all of the gates leading onto the property at the Lodge.  Also, on the gates leading to the pool.  Locks are scheduled to be activated in August.  All of us lake (The Lodge at Lake San Marcos) members will have a new ID Card.

Looking forward to all the new improvements to the community at Lake San Marcos.  And the best news is that all of these changes are helping improve the values of our Lake San Marcos homes.  For more information about Lake San Marcos real estate, contact Gary Harmon.

Lake San Marcos Helps Fight Wildfires

Lake San Marcos became the main source of water for the many helicopters fighting the San Marcos ( Cocos) fire.  See Video.

In the afternoon of May 14, 2014, a major wildfire started in the hills east of Lake San Marcos.  Fires rushed towards the lakeside community.  Later in the afternoon the evacuation order was issued for all homes south of Lake San Marcos boulevard.  Then two good things happened.  Since the fire was nearing Cal State San Marcos, Jerry Brown, the California governor, cleared the way for Cal Fire to bring the large DC 10 firefighting airplane to the San Marcos fire.  Very impressive as it flew very low right over my home.

Next, as if magic, the winds reversed and started coming from the ocean.  Ocean air contains more water, and with the addition of nightfall, the fire calmed.  However on Thursday afternoon, the fire started raging again.  This time moving over the hills towards Escondido.  To help slow the fire, many helicopters were rushed to the fire and  started to use nearby Lake San Marcos to refill their water buckets.  By the end of the day the control was starting to be established over the fire.

The Lakehouse Hotel and the owners of Lake San Marcos continue to do good things to benefit the community.

Glamping – Lake San Marcos

Glamping is coming to Lake San Marcos courteous of the Lakehouse Resort.

What is glamping: It is shorthand for glamorous camping; luxury camping.  Going camping, but with glamour. A combination of the two words. It’s like regular camping , but with nicer things than usual, being warmer, and more comfortable.

Fishing

2014 was my first year fishing Lake San Marcos and I must say, ” The fishing was fantastic!” The primary gamefish in the lake is bass, but there are also crappie, catfish, and bluegill.  Bass fishing is “catch and release only.” You may keep crappies, catfish, and bluegill.  In 2018, there was a large fish dye off and the fishing has gone downhill as a result.

Fishing is not allowed from the Pavilion docks or the boardwalk.   Fishing is also prohibited from the shore and from docked boats between the bridge and the recreational area.

  • “Where can you fish?” You can fish from the  Lakehouse dock by paying a small fee.  You can also fish about anywhere if you have a boat on the lake.  You can rent boats from the Lakehouse Resort.  Old Photo map of Lake San Marcos.
  • “Who can fish?” Residents of any Lake San Marcos homes and their guest. Residents must be prepared to identify themselves by showing your LSM Residents Card to lake maintenance staff or the security patrol if requested. Guest should have a guest card to fish the lake. Hotel guest are not allowed to fish the lake.
  • “What type of bait can you use?” Most people fishing for bass use crankbaits, spinnerbaits, plastic worms, and other types of artificial baits. No live baits except worms may be used in the lake, especially not “shinners or minnows.” Not only do shinners give fisherman an unfair advantage, and you are suppose to be fishing for bass for sport, but they might introduce a strain of fish to the lake they may upset set the sensitivie environmental balance.

If you are caught violating the Lake’s fishing regulations iit could lead to suspension of the resident’s fishing privileges.

In addition to fishing Lake San Marcos, I also am a resident and Realtor that helps people find their dream home in Lake San Marcos.

Rental Boats:  If  you stay at the Lakehouse Hotel & Resort, there are boats available for use by hotel guest.  Some are free and some have to be rented.  If you are not staying at the resort, you may also rent certain boats.  The Hotel has agreed to let Lake San Marcos residents use the boats on a limited basis.  Residents may rent kayaks, paddleboats, and brand new blue itBikes from Sunday through Thursday.  Residents may rent the new electric boats (like the blue and red pontoon boats show above)  7 days a week from 9am to 7pm.  Rates and times may change.

If you want to rent something really great, try the new 22 Bay Island Duffy parked in front of the Conference Center.  You can bring 12 guest and something to fill the ice chest.  This boat comes with a capitain.

Private Boat Use:  If you live in any of the Lake San Marcos homes, you are allowed to have a boat on Lake San Marcos.  Before you can launch it at the Lake Pavillion boat ramp, you must have your boat registered with CDC.  There is no cost to the registeration, but there is a substantial launch fee.  Your boat must meet certain rules:

From personal experience, I can say that having a boat to use on the Lake has made living in Lake San Marcos special.

Beach and Tennis Club

The Lake San Marcos Beach and Tennis Club is a private facility next to the lake marina owned and operated by CDC (Citizens Development Corporation) for the benefit and enjoyment of Lake San Marcos homes residents, residents guest,  lessee of a residence, residents of Sun Park, and guest of the Lakehouse Hotel & Resort.  Use privileges include the Beach & Tennis Club and all Lake Facilities, but not any docks or other fixtures that are currently on the Lake.  The lake is one of the greatest sources of pleasure and pride and every Lake San Marcos resident is encouraged to take full advantage fo the facilities.

There is a small marina at the club which is available to Lake San Marcos homes residents for a extra leese charge.    The 2013 lease fee was $720 annually.  Boats of excessive size are not permitted on the lake.  Currently up to 18′ boats are allowed with a motor no larger than 9.9 hp.  Residents of Lake San Marcos can also use the Lake Pavilion boat ramp to launch boats.  Your boat must be registered with CDC (at the Lake office).

The nine members of the Lake San Marcos Community Association Board of Directors are unpaid volunteers who are elected from the Association membership. Elections are held annually for approximately half of the positions. Board meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month and are open to the membership. The Association also provides periodic newsletters and hosts periodic “Town Hall” meetings open to all residents. The Annual Meeting is held in November. Again, all residents are welcome to become members.

Over the years, the individual blocks of development within the Lake San Marcos real estate area have resulted in over 22 Homeowners Associations and nearly 2500 homes.  The newest of these areas is Varadero Homes, a gated community of single family San Marcos CA homes for sale at the top of Camino del Arroyo.
